Reston Community Center (RCC) Community Survey

In 2024, the Center for Survey Research conducted the Reston Community Center (RCC) Community Survey to help with future planning for the center. The survey aimed to assess awareness and support for RCC, determine current and projected program use, understand barriers to participation, and capture preferences to inform consideration of a future community facility.

 Methods

A total of 1,074 community members participated in the survey.

 Result Highlights:

  • High levels of awareness and support for RCC:
    • More than two out of three (70%) were “very familiar” or “somewhat familiar” with RCC.
    • Strong majorities said RCC makes Reston a more attractive place to live (91%) or have a business (82%).
    • Nearly half (46%) said that RCC is “very important” to the overall quality of life in Reston.
  • Most frequently used RCC programs and services:
    • Community events (37%)
    • Professional Touring Artist Series at the CenterStage (29%)
    • Drop-in swim (25%)
  • Strong preferences for the location and accessibility of a future community facility:
    • Almost half (43%) preferred the Lake Anne neighborhood as a potential future facility location, followed by Central Reston (28%).
    • 64% reported that it is at least somewhat important for a future facility to be reached by public transport, and three-fourths (73%) noted the same for bike or walking paths.
