2024 HSLP: Day 9
High School Leaders Program Class of 2024
Day 9: Sunday, July 21st
Reported By: Caroline Crist, Western Albemarle High School and Noah Sedehi, Alexandria City High School
Today, the Sorensen scholars had the opportunity to get a couple extra hours of sleep so that they had the energy to continue work on their public policy projects with their peers and YPMs. After an O’Hill breakfast, students broke into policy groups to complete the next phases of their proposals. They created preliminary reports, press releases, and letters to editors and senators. After a dumpling lunch on The Corner, students boarded the bus towards the historic Monticello. After spending the week at Thomas Jefferson’s University, the trip was especially impactful. Mere minutes after arriving at the home of a former U.S. President, students were greeted with historical news of their own. Students were led on two separate tours of the grounds of Jefferson’s estate, and had the opportunity to explore various exhibits and ask questions to guides. After about an hour of free time to continue work on policy projects, students went back to O’Hill for yet another dinner. The evening consisted of study groups, card games, and movies. Everyone is looking forward to starting their next and final week at the Sorensen Institute!
